Evidence

What if I've lost my old super statements?

You can still put a number on it. Old balances can often be recovered from the fund, the ATO or MyGov. Where they can't, our Balance Benchmark Rating gives a disclosed estimate with a low, central and high range, so the contribution is not simply ignored.

Where to look first

Ask the fund (or its successor after a merger) for a transaction history from the cohabitation date.

Check MyGov / ATO online services for contribution and account history.

Look for old tax returns, payslips and rollover letters.

If the records are gone

The Balance Benchmark Rating estimates the starting balance from age, earnings history, the super guarantee rate at the time and published fund returns. The report labels it an estimate, states every assumption and gives a sensitivity range.

How much weight an estimate carries

An estimate is weaker evidence than a statement, and the other side can challenge it. A transparent method with a range is still far stronger than an unsupported assertion. Where records turn up later, the report can be updated.
